GlobalNet Services Delivers Google Maps Solution to City of Houston
GlobalNet Services, Inc. (GNSI) recently delivered the production release of the “Rebuild Houston 10-Year Plan for Street & Drainage” tool to the City of Houston. The application is intended to provide the public with better visibility into Capital Improvement Projects planned for the city. "Rebuild Houston 10-Year Plan for Street & Drainage" application follows the release of the “My Drainage Utility Charge Viewer” tool, which was created to provide transparency into the drainage charge determination process and allows residents to verify and correct their charge if appropriate.
GNSI, a Google Enterprise Partner, developed the application using Google Maps to provide an interactive display for users. The application obtains point-data, graphics, and overlays from web services provided by the city’s ArcGIS geospatial information system. Using a dedicated “Map Layers” legend, users can view storm drainage and street and traffic control plans by address or zip code. The Google Maps application allows viewers to see the city’s “super neighborhoods” and city boundaries by satellite or street view as well. The interactive application is easy to use and allows for user feedback, providing transparency for visitors and Houston residents alike.
The new online tool includes extensive online support via tutorial videos and help documentation, as well as live support via online operators. The application is available online at http://plan.rebuildhouston.org/.
